52cm Miyata AlumiCross Bike

15 Dec

This is the second time I have rebuilt an Alumicross, first generation cross bike built by Miyata, what a sweet ride.

52cm Miyata AX Alumicross Bike from 1990, paint scheme is white with original fork, frame and fork are in fantastic condition for her age and bike has been stripped and rebuilt using all period correct components. Seat tube measures 52cm and the top tube is 54cm, has all the brazeons for racks and fenders and would be a great cross, commuter or touring ride, lots of clearance for bigger tires, 2 water bottle mounts and pump mount under the down tube.

All components are Shimano Deore and Shimano DX including the 3×7 drive train, front der, rear der, bar end shifters, BB, cassette and chain. Brakes are the canti SLR’s with 105 pulls, all new cables and housing, bar wrap and saddle. Wheelset is a pair of Wolber GTX 32 hole laced to a pair of Shimano DX hubs that are perfectly trued and tensioned, new Specialized Armadillo tires that are puncture resistant with new tubes and rim tape.  Headset is a white Tange Nuovo that has been freshly packed with grease, Nitto Randoneur bars and short Technomic stem.

Univega Specialissimo Single Speed

4 Dec

Impeccable 57cm Univega Specialissimo (made by Miyata) from the mid-eighties, a classic representation of a nicely crafted Japanese lugged steel frame and fork. Color is shiny grey, frame was waxed and buffed before the rebuild, the diamonds and circles in the lugs have been highlighted in gold. Dropouts and fork tips are Suntour GS and frame and fork has eyelets for fenders and/or rack. Below is a list of parts that were used to give this gem a second life. All parts are brand new out of the box and are in perfect condition, except for the seat post, binder bolt and saddle.

  • Wheel set: 32h Alex rims, 32mm medium V with stainless spokes and high flange formula hubs branded GT, rear is flip/flop, 700 x 25 Kenda Kwest urban tires pumped to 110psi.
  • Brake set: Tektro R556 long reach brakes, plenty of room for bigger tires and/or fenders, Tektro 2-finger brake pulls with Odyssey Slic Kable and housing.
  • Drive train: Truvativ BB 68X109 splined, Sram Power Spline track crank, 170mm length with 48t, KMC Z chain 1/8”, Shimano 16t freewheel and a Dura-ace 15t NJS cog and lock ring, very fast!

This urban assault machine is finished with a lightly used SR Lapade seat post, Selle Italia saddle and a new pair of VP ultralight track pedals.

Miyata Nine-Twelve Commuter

4 Dec

For sale is a beautiful 56cm Miyata Nine Twelve from 1986, this is a great commuter with an almost complete Shimano 600 series gruppo, the only thing that is not are the break pulls which are Shimano 105. Just gave her an overhaul so she can be released back into the wild. Wheels are true, BB is brand new and so are the cables, housing and bar tape. Just took the Biopace rings off and replaced them with some NOS Shimano rings 52t and 39t. She is sporting some wrap around SKS fenders to keep all of the wet road grime out of the precious moving parts. Wellgo pedals with black toeclips and a lightly used Bontrager saddle. On my scale she is just tipping over 21 pounds give or take a little. A great steel frame bike from a very reputable bicycle company.

Miyata One-Twelve Single Speed

For sale 53cm Miyata One-Twelve from the early 80’s, this frame is lugged and triple butted steel for a smooth and supple ride. All of the braze ons are present and in good shape, bosses for the water bottle, brake line runs across the top and has eyelets front and rear for fenders. This frame appears to have seen very few miles in its first life as the paint is a 9 out of 10 with no scratches or dings, the decals are in perfect shape, hard to believe with a 20+ year old bike. Color is a darker antique bronze with red and orange logos. Below is a list of components:

  • Headset Tange Levin was just cleaned, packed with fresh grease and adjusted to perfection—-smooth!
  • Brand new Shimano BB sealed, and bolted to that is a pair of Signature cranks 170mm with a new GT chain ring that is 47t, powered by a new KMC Z chain and a new Shimano 16t freewheel. Pedals are a new pair of VP ultralight track pedals.
  • Wheel set is a pair of lightly used Swift medium V’s (32mm deep) 32h rims laced to a pair of formula flip/flop hubs, front is black and the rear silver and I just replaced the cartridge bearrings, stainless spokes with new tubes and new CST HP 23’s pumped up to 110 p.s.i.
  • Brake set is a pair of standard issue Shimano side pull single pivot brakes front and rear with new set of Kool Stop Thinline pads, stops on a dime!
  • Laprade seat post 26.8mm with a new Velo Origin8 saddle, comfy.
  • Nitto 1 to 1 1/8 stem converter with Bontrager 100mm stem and a pair of flop and chop bars with new Specialized in-line cross pulls, new cables and bar wrap and housing to round out this beauty.
Couple of different styles to this bike, forst went with riser bars then finally ended up with a pair of flop and chop with in line brake pulls.

Miyata AlumiCross 56cm

4 Dec

Here is my first cross build, I basically started with the frame, 56cm Miyata AlumiCross that was originally built in 1989.  Copy and paste this to check out the original bike.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_whtVpXkKwlQ/R1xHPjQpqSI/AAAAAAAAAb0/PvQzmaSBJI0/s1600-h/img201.jpg

It has been stripped and rebuilt with all lightly used parts from a 2008 Surly Crosscheck.  This includes the Shimano Deore Wheel set, with new Panaracer 700×32 Crossfire tires, Tektro Oryx canti brakes with the Tektro brake pulls, Shimano bar end shifters with Tiagra front and rear derailers and a 9 speed Tiagra cluster. Pedals are Shimano 600 NOS with cages and straps. New Tange headset, new Chromo forks, Stem is 4 bolt Ritchey Pro at 100mm and a pair of Specialized drop bars with new Zebra bar wrap, seat is a Bontrager RL white and black which is the color scheme of the entire bike. Just rolled her off the rack for her maiden voyage and she is riding like a dream, super smooth and clean. Would make a great commuter as there is lots of brazeons and room for fenders and racks.
